Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. Having missed her flight, she’s stuck at JFK airport and late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s sitting in her row.
A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?
Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

BOOK ROCK BETTY BREAK DOWN:
- THE KISSING – I wasn’t left breathless, that’s for sure… but there wasn’t exactly much time for making out either. It was just one day (eeeek! i’m dying to read that book by the way). There were enough sweet moments to make me smile though.
- THE SWOONING - I liked Oliver! He was charming, had a good sense of humor, and overall was a real sweetheart. However, he just doesn’t do it for me… I think we’d be better off friends. :)
- THE SWAGGER – I read this book in a single sitting one afternoon. I like the way it was written and the story was good. Both Oliver and Hadley had a lot going on, but I didn’t feel emotionally connected to them like I’d hoped. It was smooth and enjoyable. Picture sitting on a fruit loop while floating down a slide full of strawberry milk.
- THE OH SNAP! - Hadley is pretty ballsy. There is no way in hell I’d be going to my father’s wedding after he dumped my mom & I for some chick he met in another country. She faces it all head on and that’s awesome! I also need to admit that I cried when she realized how much her father loves her when looking at pictures of his new house. You’ll see what I mean.
- THE UMMMM WHAT?? - After everything Hadley has been through with her family over the last year, the conflict is resolved pretty quickly. She has every right to feel furious and abandoned. I fully expected an explosive climactic scene and just didn’t get it. It kinda fell flat. Give me some drama!
- THE ROCK: Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
ENCORE:
I liked this book. I didn’t love it! Maybe I’m having a ‘men are pigs’ moment– but I just didn’t like how smoothly the conflicts played out. Hadley’s father didn’t show much remorse or even concern for the aftermath of his decisions. The resolution wasn’t realistic and lacking depth. Do I regret reading it… ? NO! Again, I enjoyed it! I just don’t see myself reading it again. But, if looking for a fluffy beach read, this might be a winner. It is indeed a cute love story.
RATING: MIDDLE SHELF
